Who We Are

Jake:
Jake has run track and cross country for over 10 years.  In 2009, Jake graduated from the University of Redlands with a degree in Business.  He quickly went to work in a coat and tie at Sustainable Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania.  After a year of promoting conservation indoors he decided to take his ambitions outdoors.  Jake returned to Southern California to work for a trail crew on the Pacific Crest Trail.   He then moved to Colorado to continue working on trails, this time in a leadership role.

Karrie:
Karrie graduated in 2008 with a degree in Mathematics from Earlham College and found a job researching in Cornell University's Space Sciences Department.  She worked for a year, and then felt compelled to move outdoors.  In June 2009, Karrie set out to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail from Maine to Georgia and accomplished her goal.  Fueled by the experience, Karrie and 7 friends took to canoes in 2010, and traveled the Mississippi River from Minnesota to New Orleans.  Working on and off to support these trips, Karrie ultimately jumped at the chance to combine work and play and on a whim, joined the very same trail maintenance crew as Jake in Colorado.

It was during their work on the Continental Divide Trail in Colorado that Karrie and Jake met.  In addition to a mutual love of sweet potato burritos, music, and sustainability, they also discovered a mutual goal to thru-hike the PCT.  That was 9 months ago.  Their relationship is still in its infancy, and it's sure to be trial by fire!  It will also be a beautiful and unforgettable experience.
